SIZE: The Black-Cheeked Ant-Tanager is 7-7.5 inches, and weighs around 49 grams.
COLOR PATTERN: Both sexes have a blackish head, with a salmon colored throat patch. The male Black-Cheeked Ant-Tanager has a red breast, black wings and tail, and a partially visible salmon crown patch. The female is similar, but is duller with a less visible crown patch. SHAPE & SILHOUETTE: The Black-Cheeked Ant-Tanager has a dark bill and dark legs. BEHAVIORS: The Black-Cheeked Ant-Tanager consumes mainly insects, but also eats fruits, including berries. HABITAT: The Black-Cheeked Ant-Tanager is endemic to the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, but is also found on parts of Costa Rica's Golfe Dulce.
