There are a myriad of contributing factors to the vast amount of avifauna found in Costa Rica. One critical component is the country's geographical location. Due to being directly between both North and South America, Costa Rica acts as a bridge between the two continents, and therefore represents flora and fauna from both continents. One factor that differentiates Costa Rica's vast wildlife from other Central American countries is how many different habitats it contains. These habitats provide many types of flora, which both are pollinated by the birds, and attract them. Costa Rica also serves as a resting point for migratory birds. In addition to native species of avifauna, there are also many endemic species of birds found in Costa Rica; many for the same reasons as listed above.
