SIZE: The Mangrove Hummingbird is between 3.5 and 4.5 inches in length, and weighs approximately 4.5 grams.
COLOR PATTERN: The male Mangrove Hummingbird is a dull green on his upper body and crown, with a bronze-green tail and bronze rear. The female Mangrove Hummingbird is similar with mostly white under parts and green spots on their sides and neck.
SHAPE & SILHOUETTE: The average bill of an adult Mangrove Hummingbird is 0.7 inches. The bill is brown, with a maroon lower mandible.
BEHAVIORS: In addition to nectar of the lowers from the Tea Mangrove tree, the Mangrove Hummingbird consumes nectar from other plants as well as insects. The female lays two eggs between October and February.
HABITAT: The Mangrove Hummingbird lives mainly on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica.

FACTS: The Tea Mangrove plays a critical role in this bird's life. In addition to being a primary source of food, the bird also nests in and raises it's young in the tree. However, even though Costa Rica has a national rule saying that the cutting down of mangroves is illegal, many people ignore this rule.
