Costa rican ecology
Costa Rica is one of the greenest places on Earth, both in terms of scenery and consumption. The ecology of Costa Rica is largely driven by the sheer amount of species Costa Rica has. While Costa Rica covers 0.03% of the Earth's surface, it has almost five percent of the entire world's species. This includes more birds than North America, over 1,000 species of fish, butterflies, orchids, and insects. This all translates to something that drives much of Costa Rica's economy: ecotourism.
Ecotourism is tourism directed to natural environments, often threatened ones (this helps raise awareness and aids conservation efforts). It is one of the largest parts of the Costa Rican economy, and if it wasn't there their economy would collapse. Because there are millions of people coming to Costa Rica, there is a lot awareness raised and spread, both nationally and internationally.
