There are hundreds of species of animals that are endemic to Costa Rica. There are endemic birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and fish. Part of the reason for this is that Costa Rica forms a type of bridge between North and South Americas, allowing for a mix of species from a wide range of habitats and regions. Also, the vast variety of climates contribute to the exceptionally high amount of fauna found here. As a matter of fact, Costa Rica has so many animals that it is internationally recognized as one of the premier places for biologists and other wildlife experts to go study.
